Gum Disease Therapy
Gum disease (periodontal disease) is the primary cause of adult tooth loss in the United States. It has also been linked to overall health risks, like strokes, heart attacks, osteoporosis, and respiratory problems. Pregnant women with gum disease face increased potential for an under-weight baby.
A stealthy opponent, gum disease begins as gingivitis, and symptoms are mild. Often painless, swelling, redness, and bleeding of the gums, as well as slight tenderness, are early indicators of gum disease. If we find that gingivitis or periodontitis affects your health, we will recommend periodontal treatments. These include scaling to remove tartar, root planing to smooth tooth root surfaces where plaque accumulates, and/or Arestin antibiotic to kill infection and bacteria. Advanced cases my require removal of diseased gum tissue, and for this, we use a gentle soft tissue laser. We can help you eradicate gum disease and deter recurrence through periodontal therapy and three-month check-ups.
If your gums appear red or swollen, if they bleed when you brush your teeth or feel tender, call today to schedule an appointment with Dr. Wright or Dr. Heron. Southlake, Grapevine, Keller, and Colleyville patients enjoy the convenience of our location.
